2024 in Recap: Progress and Transformation
This year marked a turning point for public procurement. One of the most significant milestones was the introduction of eForms, a new standardized format for publishing procurement notices across Europe, designed to replace the outdated templates. Launched in late 2023, eForms began demonstrating their value throughout 2024, enabling data-driven initiatives like the Public Procurement Data Space (PPDS).
Sustainability remained a priority, with procurement policies increasingly aligned with climate goals. Governments and organizations adopted greener standards, pushing for reduced emissions across supply chains and reinforcing the role of procurement in driving environmental change.
The year also highlighted how digital tools, like data analysis and AI, changed the way procurement strategies and daily operations were carried out. They not only enhanced efficiency but also helped mitigate risks and navigate challenges like supply chain vulnerabilities.
As 2025 begins, the lessons of 2024 provide a clear roadmap for the future: leveraging technology, fostering sustainability, and building resilient procurement systems that adapt to a rapidly changing world.
A Year of Evaluation and Progress
2024 was a transformative year for public procurement in the EU, driven by a combination of digital advancements, sustainability efforts, and policy innovations. Looking ahead, 2025 will be all about revising and evaluating. The process to update procurement legislation has kicked off and will gain momentum throughout the year. With new tools like the PPDS and national equivalents, we can figure out what needs fixing and start making improvements.
The future of procurement is all about teamwork—public authorities, suppliers, and tech partners working together to create a resilient, transparent, and sustainable system. By addressing new challenges and seizing opportunities, 2025 is set to be a year of progress for everyone involved in procurement.
